Hoodia - Does Hoodia Really Work For Fat Loss?

 If you are anxious to get fat loss going, you’ve likely looked into the diet supplement, hoodia. Hoodia gordonii is a plant that was used in South African many years ago by hunters who would need to go for long durations of time without food and grows very slowly in harsh conditions and needs to be harvested for four to five years before it’s ready. 

 But how well does hoodia really work for fat loss?

  Many people turn to hoodia thinking it is the answer to all their prayers. Never hungry? Sounds like a dietary dream. After all, following a diet should be easy if you never have any feelings of hunger, shouldn’t it?

 Unfortunately, it isn’t so simple.

 First off, if you are a trying to get a lean, sexy midsection, not eating is the last thing you want to be doing. Sure, you definitely will need to eat less in order to lose body fat, but if you aren’t eating enough, you’ll actually just lose muscle rather than body fat. Stay on Your Diet and Stay in Shape Over the Holidays!

My mom makes the most amazing Christmas cake in the world; it’s been a tradition in our family for as long as I can remember. First, she mixes up a light, fluffy, vanilla cake mix, pours it into the pans and then pops it in the oven. After it’s been baked, she stacks the cake in two layers with whipped cream spread generously between each layer. She then pours on red and green Jell-O, which gets soaked up inside the cake. Next, whipped cream is smothered all the way around for frosting. And finally, she garnishes it with red and green sprinkles. A few red and green-striped candy canes are stuck in the top as the finishing touch, and off it goes to the refrigerator so it can be served chilled later.

 Now let me tell you, as a bodybuilder, I have a lot of discipline. But when that moist, delicious, red and green, Jell-O-filled, whipped-cream covered cake is sitting on the table in front of me on December 25th, it takes every ounce of my willpower to keep from calling it a “VERY high carb day” and devouring numerous very large slices.

Despite the temptation, I don’t “pig out” nor do I deprive myself. Instead, I’m content with eating my single piece, savoring every mouthwatering bite, all the while repeating my mantra, “Nothing tastes as good as being lean feels.”

Do you need to do cardio to burn body fat?

Let’s see what our expert Vince Delmonte has to say about do you need to do cardio to burn body fat.

Unless you have amazing genetics than you can probably eat whatever you want and do zero cardio and still have
ripped abs but lets leave those people out of the equation.

Fat is simply “stored energy’ and we need to burn that energy off our bodies. There is no “best” form of cardio because I have gotten ripped doing interval cardio, long and slow cardio and a mixture.  It all works and just depends on your fitness level, your time availability and what you prefer.

Personally I like to do long and slow cardio on an empty stomach in the early morning for about 45-60 minutes – this does not drain me for my weights later that day and it does not strip my muscle off.

In the evening, after my weights, I’ll do another 20-30 minutes of interval cardio or moderate intensity cardio to really dig out the fat.

My cardio regime might appear intense and my total training volume can be over 2 hours a day during the last 4 weeks before a show –  but realize that I progressed to this over time.  Did you get that? (more…)
